HD Steth — a smart stethoscope's companion app, built on BLE
An iOS app that pairs over Bluetooth Low Energy with the HD Steth smart stethoscope and shows heart sounds (PCG) and a 1-lead ECG side by side, live, for clinicians to record and review.

The Challenge
Digitizing a stethoscope means more than streaming audio — the app has to reliably discover and pair with the BLE hardware, guide the clinician through correct auscultation positioning, render two live biosignal waveforms without dropouts, and let gain be adjusted on the fly, all in a workflow a clinician can trust mid-examination.
The Solution
We implemented the BLE integration layer for device discovery and pairing, then built the real-time signal path that renders live PCG (heart sound) and ECG waveforms side by side, with independently adjustable gain for each. The app guides the clinician through standard auscultation positions and posture (sitting, standing, supine, lateral) on an on-screen chest diagram, and supports Record/Freeze controls so a study can be captured, saved, and reviewed later.
Two live waveforms, one screen
Heart sounds (PCG) and ECG stream in together over BLE, with independent gain control for each trace and one-tap Record, Freeze and Add Study.
Record without moving
While a study records, the controls lock and a clear progress bar tells the clinician to hold still, so the capture stays clean from start to finish.
Guided auscultation
Before recording, the clinician picks the chest position on an anatomical diagram and the patient posture — sitting, standing, supine or lateral — so every study is labelled consistently.
Built around the device in hand
The app is designed for the HD Steth hardware and its three auscultation modes — Bell, Diaphragm and Lung — with the app handling pairing, live streaming and playback.
